Time is running out to reserve your spot for our next Dine & Discover program—registrations are due Monday, June 16!
Don’t miss this powerful evening of local flavor and historical insight on Monday, June 23 at the Door County Event Center in Southern Door. Enjoy a delicious catered meal from Marchant’s, followed by a riveting presentation from David Siegel, retired Green Bay Metro Fire Department captain and noted author.
Siegel will present “Understanding the Realities of the October 1871 Fires,” a deep dive into one of the most devastating firestorms in American history. While the Peshtigo and Chicago fires are often remembered, Siegel reveals a broader, often overlooked story—one that includes massive destruction across the Bay of Green Bay and into Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. His presentation will challenge popular myths, lay out historical truths, and draw important comparisons to recent firestorms in the U.S.

With over 25 years in the fire service and a background in biochemistry, Siegel brings a unique perspective to this topic. He’s the author of Forces of Change, which explores the early days of the Green Bay Fire Department, and continues to educate the public through engaging talks like this one.
