100 Stories for 100 Years

As we celebrate our 100th anniversary, we’re launching a multigenerational history project to record and preserve the stories of Door County residents—and we need your help.

Local high school history students will interview 100 people in Door County. We’re looking for people who have lived here for many years, are connected through family, work, or service, and are willing to share their experiences from a wide range of backgrounds across the county.

Each interview will be recorded, photographed, and turned into a short written piece. All stories will be published in a book with QR codes linking to full audio recordings.

Highlights of our History

We will include a special series at our monthly Dine & Discover programs: Highlights of Our History. Each month, a member of the Centennial Committee will offer a brief 5–7 minute presentation exploring a decade that helped shape our organization and the community we serve.

This series offers a meaningful way to reflect on our past while celebrating the people and milestones that brought us to this exciting anniversary year. Your participation strengthens our mission to preserve and share Door County’s heritage—and donations of any size help this work continue and grow.

Centennial Art & Essay Contest

As part of our anniversary celebration, the Door County Historical Society will introduce a Centennial Essay & Art Contest for local students. This contest invites students to reflect on why local history matters—how it shapes identity, connects generations, and helps us understand our community’s past, present, and future. Students will be invited to respond to an important question: Why should we collect, maintain, and share the rich history and heritage of Door County?

4H & Door County Fair Collaboration

We’re also excited to launch a separate partnership with local 4-H students focused on bringing Door County history to life. Through this project, we will teach students about the county’s past and help them develop history-based exhibits for the Door County Fair. Working alongside our team, students will research, interpret, and present stories that highlight the people, places, and events that have shaped Door County, creating engaging projects to share with the wider community.

Bring a piece of Door County’s story to your next gathering.

In celebration of our 100th anniversary, the Door County Historical Society has created a brief, engaging presentation that highlights the people, places, and moments that have shaped our first century. In just 10–15 minutes, we’ll share how DCHS has worked to preserve our peninsula’s history and the lasting impact that work has had on our community.

This presentation is perfect for community organizations, boards, employee groups, and more. If you’re looking for a meaningful and locally rooted program, we’d love to join you and share our story. Contact our office to schedule a presentation for your group.
