Our friends at the Sturgeon Bay Historical Society and the Door County Granary are hosting a special performance that may be of great interest to our members.
On Monday, October 13, 2025, at 6:00 PM, join Larry Desotell and Rich Wolter at the Door County Granary in Sturgeon Bay for They All Had Names: A Civil War Musical.
This moving musical tells the story of Union soldiers, Confederate prisoners, and an enslaved man whose lives intersected at Camp Randall in the spring of 1862. The narrative also follows their descendants, who meet generations later at Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison. Through original music and storytelling, the program explores the nature of freedom, the human cost of war, and how the experiences of those who lived through it continue to resonate today.
Featuring musicians Rich Wolter (guitar and vocals), Kay Bidwell-Loberg (fiddle and vocals), Tad Greene (banjo and vocals), Jeff Holland (mandolin, flute, and vocals), and Larry Desotell (narration), this performance offers a mix of songs—some somber, some lively, and all deeply inspiring.
The event is free and open to the public and will take place at the Door County Granary, 72 E. Locust Ct, Sturgeon Bay. Please note that the Granary is an uninsulated indoor space—dress warmly for comfort.
If you can’t attend in October, a second showing will be held at the Door County Library in Sturgeon Bay on December 6 at 2:00 PM—a date marking the 160th anniversary of the ratification of the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery in the United States.
We encourage our members and friends to attend this thoughtful program and support the important work of our fellow historical organizations as they bring history to life in meaningful ways.
