New Life in the Granary: Cleaned, Organized, and Full of History!

There’s something new to see inside the Petersen Granary at Heritage Village! Thanks to the efforts of volunteer Jeff Gosser, the granary has received a complete refresh. Jeff cleaned, reorganized, and improved the displays, making this historic building more engaging and educational for visitors.

One of the highlights is the beautifully restored fanning mill, donated by Dan Hansen. This important piece of farm equipment was once used to separate grain from chaff—an essential step in preparing crops. It’s a wonderful addition to the Granary, helping tell the story of agricultural life in Door County at the turn of the century.

If you haven’t stopped by Heritage Village lately, now’s the perfect time! The Village is open Wednesday through Sunday, 11am–4pm, and will close for the season on Friday, October 24. Be sure to visit before then to see the Granary’s improvements and all the other historic treasures throughout the Village.
