If you’ve been thinking about attending the Door County Historical Society’s June Dine & Discover program, now is the time to reserve your seat. Registration closes June 15, and you won’t want to miss this special evening celebrating one of Door County’s most beloved landmarks.
Join us on Monday, June 22, at The Log Den in Egg Harbor for an engaging presentation by Wisconsin lighthouse authors Ken and Barb Wardius.
The Wardiuses are well known for their book Wisconsin Lighthouses and other works exploring Great Lakes maritime history. They are currently researching and writing a new book on the history of Eagle Bluff Light Station, and during this program they’ll take us behind the scenes of the book-writing process.

Ever wondered how historians transform decades of research into a compelling story? Ken and Barb will share how they uncover sources, verify facts, conduct research, organize information, and bring history to life on the page. Whether you’re a lighthouse enthusiast, local history buff, aspiring writer, or simply curious about the stories behind Door County’s landmarks, you’ll leave with a new appreciation for the work that goes into preserving our history.
The timing couldn’t be better.
Just four days later, on Friday, June 26, the Door County Historical Society will celebrate the Grand Opening of the restored Eagle Bluff Light Station. This Dine & Discover program offers a unique opportunity to learn about the lighthouse’s history before experiencing the newly restored site for yourself.
The evening will also feature the latest installment of our “Highlights of Our History” Centennial Series, focusing on the 1960s—the decade when local citizens first rallied to save Eagle Bluff Lighthouse from deterioration. Their efforts helped ensure the landmark would survive for future generations and ultimately paved the way for the restoration project we celebrate today.
Together, these stories reveal how generations of Door County residents have worked to preserve Eagle Bluff Lighthouse—from the keepers who lived there, to the citizens who saved it, to today’s restoration team, and now to the authors documenting its story for the future.
Of course, no Dine & Discover would be complete without a delicious meal. Guests will enjoy pork tenderloin with Door County cherry sauce, potatoes, vegetables, and lighthouse-themed cookies for dessert.
