As we celebrate Independence Day, we are reminded that history is not just found in books or museums—it is all around us. It lives in the communities we call home, the traditions we share, and the stories passed from one generation to the next.
This Fourth of July is especially meaningful as we continue celebrating the Door County Historical Society’s 100th anniversary. For a century, we have been honored to preserve the people, places, and events that have shaped Door County. As our nation prepares to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence next year, we are reminded that local history is America’s history. Every lighthouse keeper, farmer, fisherman, teacher, merchant, veteran, and volunteer has contributed to the story of our community—and that story deserves to be remembered.
Whether you’re spending the holiday with family, watching a parade, enjoying fireworks, or visiting one of Door County’s historic sites, we hope you’ll take a moment to reflect on the generations who came before us. Their hard work, perseverance, and love for this place helped create the community we enjoy today.
Thank you to our members, donors, volunteers, and visitors for helping us preserve Door County’s heritage. Your support ensures that these stories will continue to inspire future generations.
From all of us at the Door County Historical Society, we wish you a safe, joyful, and memorable Fourth of July.
Happy Independence Day!
