Greetings,

It was an eventful day at the lighthouse as the initial stabilization work draws to a close. John Fletcher and his son Tyler visited the lighthouse today. Tomorrow, August 6, will be the last day for this stage of work. Chuck and I walked through the lighthouse with John to review the completed work and discuss the few items that remain.

John, Josh, and Dion will return in September to check on the completed work and finish a few additional items. They plan to add a second coat of paint on the tower railing and install shutter dogs on the upstairs windows. Shutter dogs are devices that attach at the bottom of the shutters to keep them open. This will make it much easier to open and close the shutters.

The foundation parging was painted today with a special permeable paint that allows moisture through. It makes a big difference in completing the fresh look of the lighthouse.

When John and Tyler left this afternoon they took the work trailer with them. The trailer was on site since April 24 and it will be weird to not see it parked outside the lighthouse anymore. I guess that means this first phase of restoration work is really coming to an end.

We deeply appreciate the outstanding work the National Restoration team has done to make Eagle Bluff Lighthouse look better than ever. Thank you to everyone involved with this first stage, including the EBLH staff, volunteers, Lighthouse Committee, and our donors and supporters. On to the next stage!

Ed

  1. What an awesome job the restoration crew has done. It’s so reassuring to know they’ll return in the fall for a short while but then will be here to work on the interior next spring.
Thanks for your awesome blog and photos. You’ve done an amazing job and all your work and photos are greatly appreciated!
Chuck has also done an amazing job with his photo presentation in explaining the work and future needs for improvements and restoration at Eagle Bluff.
Many thanks to all who have been involved with Eagle Bluff. I heard many wonderful comments from visitors there today for Kids Day. Thanks to Wendy for all her work. Families were delighted and it was wonderful to see the kids so interested in the history at Eagle Bluff Lighthouse Museum!
