On Tuesday, concrete work for a barn and summer kitchen was completed, including pouring floor slabs and stamping to create a wood plank appearance. By Wednesday, control joints were cut into the slabs to manage potential cracks due to temperature and moisture changes. Framing for the summer kitchen begins next Monday.

The winter kitchen’s wainscoting issues have been resolved after uncovering serious problems. Laaksonen Builders, led by Mike, provided expert assistance. After a material delay, they sourced beadboard from Menards quickly, enabling the installation by Wednesday morning. The kitchen is now ready for visitors, while painters progress in adjacent areas.

The Door County Historical Society will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026 and is inviting community members to join a brainstorming session on April 27 from 1:00–3:00 p.m. at the Door County Community Foundation. The lighthouse restoration is progressing, but significant damage was discovered in the winter kitchen’s wainscoting due to moisture issues. Initiating repairs, all affected wainscoting will be removed to prevent further damage. Meanwhile, work on the barn and summer kitchen continues with installation of insulation and preparations for pouring the foundation slabs.

Today, significant improvements occurred at the lighthouse and surrounding areas. The barn and summer kitchen foundations were backfilled, and tree stumps removed. Inside, painting is brightening the winter kitchen and dining room. Upcoming tasks include electrical work and slab pouring, with construction led by Mike Laaksonen. Great job by everyone involved!
