From the Keeper’s Desk – April 15

Greetings!

Some things are happening faster than we anticipated, like painting the inside of the lighthouse. Wonderful!

Yesterday, April 14, Chuck Baum reported:
Bob the Painter and his assistant started the interior painting at the lighthouse this morning.  In addition to the walls, all of the trim, doors and wainscoting will be painted.  The wainscoting will be the same color as the walls (Sherwin Williams Autumn Wheat) with the trim Alabaster White.  All of the woodwork around  and above the stairs to the basement will also be painted with the railings staying stained and varnished. I re-secured the basement door frame, planed the bottom down and replaced screws for the bottom hinge – now it closes all the way!

Bob’s assistant is Jeanne and this morning she was sanding the door between the kitchen and dining room to prepare it for painting. Bob is collaborating with another painter, Beth Straka. They both have painted at Eagle Bluff Lighthouse in the past. We are fortunate that Bob and Beth were able to fit our painting project into their busy schedules. Additionally. it is wonderful to have functional electricity at the lighthouse without having to rely on a generator. Jeanne said all three of them intend to be working in the lighthouse tomorrow.

As for the barn and summer kitchen foundations, if all goes according to plan JF Construction should be on site tomorrow morning to backfill the foundations and fill the inside of the foundations with compacted gravel. Action Electric needs to place conduit for wiring in the barn floor. Jude is hoping to pour the floors Monday or Tuesday after Easter. That is next week.

John Fletcher and the crew from National Restoration should be back soon to continue their work.
