From the Keeper’s Desk – April 23

Greetings,

We’re excited to share that the issues with the winter kitchen’s wainscoting have been fully resolved!

What began as a routine repair quickly uncovered deeper problems: rotten wainscoting, deteriorating plaster, and damaged lathe and furring. Chuck got the ball rolling by removing the worst of it, but it became clear we needed expert help to stay on schedule.

Enter Laaksonen Builders. After a quick consultation, Mike Laaksonen assessed the situation and offered a solution. When we discovered that beadboard replacement from Lampert’s would take over two weeks, we pivoted. A bit of online research showed that Menards had the material in stock, and Mike made a run to Green Bay early Tuesday morning. By late morning, he had it back in Sturgeon Bay, and Bob quickly got to work priming the boards.

Billy from Laaksonen Builders prepped the wall Tuesday and had the new beadboard installed by 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Thanks to teamwork, quick thinking, and the skill of our partners, the kitchen is once again ready to welcome visitors.

Meanwhile, our painters continue their work in the dining room and winter kitchen and are starting to move into the hallway.

  1. Wow! Thanks to our experts for getting things in order! The place will be so much brighter and airy. Having worked there for several years I appreciate all this “down under” work. Thanks for sharing your great photos. It will be a highlight to see Eagle bluff after these amazing upgrades.
I did not know that the original interior was painted white since the wood was stained when I spent time there. This definitely brightens up all the corners that were dark on those cloudy days. This is an exciting time and we are thankful for all who are part of this challenge.
