Greetings!
Much has happened since the last Keeper’s message on July 28. It happened a little bit at a time.
John and Chuck got the flag pole painted after cleaning it up.
Jeanne was at work painting window sashes in the barn. The outlet extensions in the barn hayloft have been painted and are ready for our electricians to install outlet and switch cover plates.
All kinds of stuff has been brought to the summer kitchen from the Hanson House at Crossroads. Most notably the Duclon kitchen cook stove. It will need some work to get it functional. It was made by the Neenah Stove Works.
Taylor Elam of Taylor’s Hardwood Floors was at EBLS to get measurements to provide an estimate for work on floors in the hayloft and lighthouse. The hayloft floor will only need a buffing to get it ready for the clear finish he will apply. The lighthouse kitchen floor will need to be sanded and a clear finish applied. The other floors in the lighthouse will get a buffing and a clear finish applied. They will not be sanded as to not remove the character they acquired over time. There are some miscellaneous repairs needed on steps and floors. Taylor should be able to work on the hayloft floor the week of Aug 25 after the sidewalk and grading work has been finished.
Mike installed a new deadbolt on the front door of the lighthouse.
The double doors for the barn east entrance finally arrived and were installed. After a bit of consternation with a threshold that was not supposed to be installed on the doors Mike and Billy expertly installed the big doors. They successfully removed the threshold. The doors have been painted with one coat to match the siding. The last of the siding was installed now that the big doors are in. Trim was installed around the doors inside the barn. The newly installed siding will need a coat of solid color stain.
If anyone is wondering why no pictures of National Restoration working at EBLS it is because they were hired by The Ridges Sanctuary to complete long overdue work at the Baileys Harbor Range Lights. Josh and Deion did restoration work on the Range Light oil house and Rear Range Light foundation. The timing was perfect with a lull in the work at EBLS. Josh and Deion will be back Monday at EBLS to paint the tower steps while the lighthouse is closed during the week for sidewalk replacement and grading. That will start August 18. The lighthouse will be closed Monday to Friday.
Josh Fletcher of National Restoration will be here Aug 18 to remove the lower lighthouse window sashes to be taken to their fabricator to turn them into divided light windows. They will get six individual panes of glass installed in the sashes new mullions. Josh F also expects to have the new spires for the privy that Josh H and Deion will install.
