From the Keeper’s Desk – June 5

Greetings!

We arrived at the light station this morning to see the freshly painted bright red roof on the oil house. Josh and Deion did a great making it look like it is supposed to look.

The words of the day were cedar shake staining. We have 20 bundles of shakes (or shingles) to stain. A square of shingles is the amount that will cover 100 square feet. There are four bundles to a square so if my math is right there are 500 square feet of shingles to stain. It is done by dipping them in a tray and wiping off the excess. They then leaned against some rope to dry. At the end of the day Chuck said six bundles got done. Any guesses as to what we are going to be doing for a few more days?

Dave Lea was doing some more work tuning the piano in the lighthouse. He said it sounds pretty good for a 173 year old piano.

Mike and Billy were working on trim boards that go at the foundation of the barn.

Park superintendent Eric Hyde was at the Light Station this morning. Chuck asked if we could have the grass cut soon for Lighthouse Festival weekend. Eric said maybe tomorrow. A crew was over at 1:30 this afternoon to cut the grass. It is looking nice for the weekend. Thanks Eric and park folks.
