Greetings!
The long-awaited day has arrived—work is officially underway on rebuilding the barn and summer kitchen! While construction was originally set to begin yesterday, winter storms over the weekend caused a brief delay.
We kicked things off last Wednesday with a preconstruction meeting alongside our contractor, Mike Laaksonen, to finalize details and mark the corners of both buildings. Prior to that, Peninsula State Park Superintendent Eric Hyde and his team removed trees near the barn site to prevent potential damage from high winds.

This morning, J F Construction was on-site to complete the excavation work for the building foundations. Later in the afternoon, I joined Mike to help install the safety fencing around each excavation site.

Next up: Colosimo Construction will be setting the forms for the footings—hopefully by the end of the week!

Stay tuned for more updates as we bring this historic reconstruction to life.
Best,
Ed
