The Door County Historical Society invites you to make history part of your September! Each week at Heritage Village, we’re offering unique, hands-on programs that bring the past to life for all ages. From old-fashioned classrooms to sweet maple syrup tastings, there’s something for everyone.
📚 Chalkboards, not Whiteboards
Saturday, September 6 at 12:30 pm
Ever wonder what school was like before computers, smartphones, and even electricity? Join schoolmarm Joan Wilkie for a trip back in time and experience lessons the way children did in the late 1800s.
🧶 Have a Ball
Thursday, September 11 at 12:30 pm
Discover how wool was used in everyday life more than a century ago. This hands-on workshop introduces the basics of wet felting—an art once common in rural households.
🍎 Harvest Festival
Saturday, September 20, 8 am–4 pm
Join us at Sturgeon Bay’s Harvest Festival! Stop by the DCHS booth to enjoy our traditional apple pie-in-a-cup and sample a variety of apples. Then, head to Heritage Village for apple coring and cider pressing demonstrations.
🍁 A Sip of Syrup
Saturday, September 27 at 1:00 pm
Enjoy a peaceful afternoon on the Greene Store porch while sampling maple syrup from Door County’s Sweet Mountain Farm. Learn new ways to add this fall favorite to your recipes and take a bit of history home with you.
Important Details
- Pre-registration is encouraged so we have enough supplies for all participants.
- Children must be accompanied by an adult.
- Programs are included with Village admission unless otherwise noted for supplies.
- All programs begin at the Greene Store at Heritage Village, 2041 Michigan St., Sturgeon Bay.
