There’s something special about a family business that stands the test of time—and in May, you’re invited to hear the story of one that has done just that for more than a century.
On Monday, May 18, the Door County Historical Society welcomes George Draeb of Draeb Jewelers for a special Dine & Discover presentation: “116 Years of Draeb Jewelers.” From its founding by George A. Draeb in 1910 to its continued presence today, this program will explore the history, growth, and legacy of a beloved Sturgeon Bay institution.

George Draeb is uniquely qualified to tell this story. A lifelong resident of Sturgeon Bay, he has spent 52 years working in the family business, witnessing firsthand its evolution through generations. As a certified Master Watchmaker, George brings deep expertise in craftsmanship, along with a personal connection that makes this history come alive. He is also an Eagle Scout, reflecting a lifelong commitment to service and community.
The May program will be held at the Door Country Event Center, located three miles south of Sturgeon Bay at Schmitz Insurance. Before the presentation, guests will enjoy a delicious buffet dinner catered by Marchant’s of Brussels, featuring ham, meatballs, green bean casserole, potato salad, German potato salad, brownies, lemonade, coffee, and water.
Dine & Discover is one of our most popular programs—bringing people together to enjoy great food and engaging stories from Door County’s past. Whether you have a connection to Draeb Jewelers or simply enjoy learning about local history, this is an evening you won’t want to miss.
Cost is $40 per person (DCHS members pay $35). Please register by May 11 to secure your spot. You can register online by clicking the button below, or call the office at 920-421-2332. We hope you’ll join us for this meaningful look at a business that has helped shape our community for over 116 years.
