We’re just days away from a very special moment in the Door County Historical Society’s 100th anniversary year—and we want you there to celebrate with us!
On Wednesday, September 9 at 3:30 p.m., Heritage Village will be the site of a celebration 100 years in the making as the Wisconsin Historical Society presents the Door County Historical Society with the 2026 Reuben Gold Thwaites Trophy for Local History.
And most importantly: You’re invited!
This is not a private ceremony or an invitation-only event. Everyone is welcome to attend and help us celebrate this extraordinary recognition of the Door County Historical Society and its century of work preserving and sharing Door County history.
Joining us for this special occasion will be Christian Overland, Ruth & Hartley Barker Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Wisconsin Historical Society, along with Society staff and members of the Board of Curators.
Their visit to Door County underscores the significance of this honor and makes the afternoon an especially memorable opportunity to celebrate not only the Door County Historical Society, but the important role local history plays throughout Wisconsin.
Receiving the Thwaites Trophy would be meaningful in any year. Receiving it as we celebrate our 100th anniversary makes September 9 a truly historic day for the Door County Historical Society.
