Greetings,
It was an eventful week. The DNR Natural Resources Board visited Eagle Bluff Light Station. Ed had an opportunity to get reacquainted with Natural Resources Board member Bill Smith. Bill Smith and I go back to our time (late 1970’s) in the air pollution control program. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… I was an engineer and a supervisor in the air monitoring section. Bill was an engineer in the compliance side of the program. He went on to important positions in the department. He was the previous chair of the NRB. As board chairman Bill signed off on the DCHS donations for the cost of getting electricity to EBLS and the barn and summer kitchen costs.
Bill served 34 years with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. He began as an environmental engineer and worked many
years as the Northern Region Director. From 2003 – 2007, Bill served as the Deputy Secretary with responsibility for the daily operations of 2700 natural resource professionals. Bill enjoys active community service as the long-time Board Chair of the Shell Lake Zoning Board of Appeals, Board Director (past) for the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin, Director Emeritus for the International Crane Foundation and Board Chair (past) of Glenview Assisted Living. Bill graduated from the United States Air Force Academy (BS – Civil Engineering) and the University of Illinois (MS – Civil/Environmental Engineering). He is proud to be an Air Force veteran with 22 years of service as a helicopter pilot and engineering officer. He has served in local government and been active in Scouting and youth sports.
It was great to see Bill again. What an exciting time to have the Natural Resources Board visit Eagle Bluff Light Station.
The other big happening this week is that Mike, Billy and Cory started work on the pump house at the well head. The structure was completed in one day. Next step is to install siding and trim that Chuck and Ed started painting Thursday. It was actually solid color stain that we used. We got a lot done Thursday and will finish up Friday morning after Chuck gets more stain.
