One of the true hidden treasures at Heritage Village is quietly growing all season long.
Tucked among our historic buildings, the Heritage Garden is bursting with vegetables, herbs, flowers, and the sights and scents of summer. Whether you’re admiring colorful blooms, discovering heirloom vegetables, or simply enjoying a peaceful stroll, the garden has become a favorite stop for visitors exploring Heritage Village.
What makes it even more special is the incredible team behind it.
For the past three years, the Heritage Garden has been thoughtfully planned, planted, and lovingly cared for by the dedicated volunteers of the Door County Master Gardeners. Their knowledge, creativity, and countless volunteer hours have transformed the garden into something truly beautiful.
And the beauty doesn’t stop at the garden gate.
Just last week, Master Gardeners Ruth, Dina, and Ruth harvested more than 30 pounds of fresh produce from the garden. Every bit of it was donated to Feed My People, providing fresh, healthy food to members of our community.
It’s a wonderful example of how history, gardening, volunteerism, and community can all come together in one special place.
At the Door County Historical Society, we are honored to help facilitate this partnership and deeply grateful to the Door County Master Gardeners for sharing their time, talents, and passion with Heritage Village. Their work not only enhances the visitor experience but also demonstrates how historic sites can continue serving the community in meaningful ways.
