Calling All Bakers! Help Sweeten Opening Day at Heritage Village

A variety of homemade cakes on a colorful table at a market stall.

The Door County Historical Society is seeking homemade treats and baked goods for the annual Opening Day Bake Sale at Heritage Village on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

One of the most popular traditions of Opening Day, the bake sale helps create the warm, welcoming atmosphere visitors have come to love at Heritage Village. From cookies and bars to breads, pies, muffins, candies, and family-favorite recipes, every contribution helps make the event special while supporting the Door County Historical Society’s mission to preserve and share local history.

We invite volunteers, members, and community supporters to help stock the tables with a wide variety of homemade goodies for guests to enjoy and purchase throughout the day.

Bake sale donations may be dropped off at Heritage Village on Friday afternoon, May 22. Individually wrapped items, clearly labeled ingredients, and ready-to-sell packaging are greatly appreciated to help ensure consistency and ease for volunteers and guests.

Opening Day at Heritage Village runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and features free admission, tours of historic buildings, demonstrations, hands-on activities, and fun for the entire family. The bake sale is always a favorite stop for visitors exploring the Village.

If you would like to contribute baked goods or volunteer to help with the bake sale, please email wendy@doorcountyhistoricalsociety.org or sign up through our volunteer opportunities page on the website.

Thank you for helping us make Opening Day at Heritage Village a delicious success!
