From the Keeper’s Desk – April 20 & 22, 2026

April 20 –

Chuck and I spent the day moving things around on the first floor so Taylor can work on the dining room floor and finish up work on the music room floor. We had to empty everything out of the dining room that ended up there. Things belonging in the music room went back there. Everything else went into the parlor.

We removed casters from tables and chairs replacing them with felt pads so that the casters will not mar the newly refinished floors. It was a challenge getting the bed frame out of the bedroom. We did not want to take it apart. More so due to the fact that there did not seem to be a way to take it apart. And we did not want to have to restring the rope. By tipping it up on end we were able to maneuver it into the music room.

The plaster guys should be here Tuesday or Wednesday to put sheetrock and veneer plaster on the bedroom duct chase. Bob and Jeanne plan on working Wednesday to put a second coat of paint on the walls and ceiling on the second floor bedroom. Bob is going to put another coat of paint on the tower railing. The small second floor bedroom needs to have the ceiling access panel painted to match the ceiling color. After that they should be pretty much finished.

Taylor will be back Thursday to work on the dining room and keeper’s bedroom floors. Maybe even the first floor hallway. Then next week it is working on the second level floors. We still have to get the ice box and dry sink moved from the dining room into the kitchen where they will stay. We need help doing that before Taylor arrives Thursday.

April 22 (Earth Day) —

Greetings,

A big thank you to Mike and Billy for moving the drysink and icebox from the dining room to the kitchen. Now the floor is ready for Taylor to refresh. He plans on doing the remaining floors on the first floor this afternoon.

Scott from Hometown Plastering was at the lighthouse first thing Wednesday morning to enclose the duct chase framing in the keeper’s bedroom with sheetrock and veneer plaster. He completed it later in the morning and it will be ready to paint next Wednesday when Bob plans on being back. On Wednesday Bob put another coat of paint on the tower railing. He applied filler to joints on the barn doors and painted afterwards.

On Tuesday Bob and Jeanne finished painting in the big second floor bedroom. Painting is almost done.
